Many of us over-indulge at Christmas, so a New Year detox is the perfect way to revitalise the body, renew energy levels and restore radiant skin. By following these 5 simple tips your body will soon look and feel refreshed and invigorated…
1. Elimination
Sweating is one of the most natural ways to detox the body. We are designed to do this automatically and for hundreds of years many tribal cultures including Native Americans practise this ritual in 'sweat lodges' which are a natural sauna.
My tip: Try to have a sauna at least twice a week. This is a great way to eliminate toxins, it boosts and hydrates your skin and also really cleanses your whole system.
2. Internal cleansing
Apple cider vinegar was used as a detox supplement long before 'detox' pills and drinks were available. Totally natural, this remedy is reputed to help with eczema, fatigue and allergies.
My tip: Source a natural apple cider vinegar from a good health food shop. Put 2-3 tablespoons into a glass of water and drink daily. You can add honey to improve the taste and this will also help digestion. This is a great way to boost your body's defence system.
3. Professional facials
A regular facial by a qualified professional beauty therapist is a great way to enhance your natural beauty and detox your skin. Why not start the New Year by giving your skin a hands-on boost?
My tip: Try to find a facial that incorporates vacuum suction, such as the Liz Earle Signature Facial. Vacuum suction is an established beauty therapy treatment that enhances the effects of facial massage. It helps to boost sluggish circulation, eliminates impurities and plumps skin. Depending on your individual skincare needs, an intensive course of 6 treatments or a maintenance facial once a month will make a real difference to your skin.
4. Skin buffing
Exfoliation is a great and simple tool to eliminate dry skin, boost circulation and bring oxygen to your skin cells.
My tip: Always exfoliate before applying a nourishing mask. Imagine you are creating a canvas for your skincare, by removing the dead skin, which can make skin look dull, especially in the winter months. Massage a gentle exfoliator over your face, neck and décolletage and wipe off with a dampened pure muslin cloth before spreading on a facial mask such as Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask (UK, IE & US) to brighten and revive a congested complexion.
5. Brighten & purify
Using a detoxifying mask will help to draw out impurities and balance your complexion.
My tip: Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask (UK, IE & US) is great for absorbing excess oil and eliminating impurities. Either apply daily as a treatment directly on spots for 10 minutes, over the T-zone (nose, chin and forehead), or all over skin if quite oily. Leave for 10 minutes and remove with damp sponges. The green clay will absorb excess oils and give a matte finish to the skin.

Dear Patricia
You may like to try our Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask which is a deeply rehydrating mask which will help to condition and moisturise any dry patches. Apply a thick layer to your skin and relax for 10-15 mins whilst your skin absorbs the moisturising ingredients. Remove the mask with a muslin cloth and follow by toning and moisturising as usual.
We hope this helps but if you would like any further assistance please do call our skincare experts on 01983 813913 who will be delighted to advise.

Hello All,
Liz Earle has skin care products which are very enjoyable to use. Myself and mother and sisters are big fans. However I note that one of your experts recommends methods of detoxing. As an educated person with a scientific background, it puts me off the brand to see methods of “detoxing”. i suspect many of your customers are well paid and well educated individuals. This “detox” article reflects poorly on the brand, as there is no scientific evidence to support the claims mentioned. There is on the other hand much evidence to suggest that `’detoxing`’ is completely pointless. The inclusion of this article quite frankly makes the management of Liz Earle look silly and undermines credibility with regard to products.

Hi Justine. We would recommend that you concentrate on the basics of cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day and if you are experiencing some congestion then we would recommend you use a clean, fresh muslin cloth each time you cleanse to avoid cross infection. Used cloths can be conveniently washed in your normal white wash or simply boil washed in plain water for a few minutes to kill any bacteria. You do not mention which moisturiser you are currently using and from the description of your skin you may like to try a slightly lighter formulation – for instance, if you are using Skin Repair Dry/Sensitive then we would suggest Normal/Combination and so forth. Superskin Concentrate can help to nourish and balance your skin, applied sparingly before moisturising at night or even on its own after cleansing and toning; however, we do always recommend a 24-hour patch test before the first use of any new skincare product.

Hi Elita
Thank you for your query.
We would recommend starting with our Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and Instant Boost Skin Tonic. We always suggest choosing your moisturiser by skintype rather than age, therefore from the description of your skin would recommend following with Skin Repair normal/combination. Use these three daily essentials every morning and evening.
Whilst our products aren’t intended for medical use, we have received some feedback from other customers with rosacea who have achieved excellent results using our Intensive Nourishing Treatment followed by Superskin Concentrate, which help calm the redness associated with rosacea.
Intensive Nourishing Treatment contains the ingredient St John’s Wort which is often found in skin care remedies for sensitive complexions. Use this luxurious mask once a week.
Our Superskin Concentrate was developed to be used as a night-time nourisher for facial skin and contains argan oil. Argan oil is native to Morocco and has been used for centuries by the Moroccan women to help moisturise and revitalise their skin.
As a commonsense precaution we recommend patch testing any new product for 24hrs before first use.

I am 53 years old, dark blonde hair and have a bit of rosacea – I always have a red rosy blotchy complexion. My skin is a tad dry but basically normal. What regime do you recommend?

Hi Claire, thanks for your question. Whilst we’re not medically trained, in Liz’s latest book ‘Skin Secrets’ she mentions trying vitamins A, D and zinc as these can help to stimulate healthy new skin cells.
