Cowes Week round-up |
What a fantastic week despite the somewhat changeable weather! Early in the week there was excitement on and off the water; gusty winds created great conditions at sea for competitors who were battling out for the Britannia Cup and on shore there were the Ladies Day Award celebrations that highlight the achievements and contribution of women in sailing. On Tuesday evening a special ceremony was held in Cowes Yacht Haven where Sam Davies was announced the overall winner. Sam completed her first solo, non-stop round the world Vendee globe race earlier this year in an incredible time of just over 95 days – just missing out on beating Ellen MacArthur’s record of 94 days. Spectators on Ladies Day were also able to see many of the top women sailors like Dame Ellen MacArthur, Sam Davies, Dee Caffari and Miranda Merron join a fleet of nine Open 60s for the Artemis Trophy.
Our team on the Parade have been pampering customers non-stop and meeting friends old and new. The girls were excited to spot Alan Titchmarsh and Ben Fogle who have also been enjoying the atmosphere here at Cowes.
Mid-week the wind turned a bit calmer but the parade seemed to get busier, our hand and arm massages proved particularly popular and were booked solid every day. The rain tried to dampen spirits but failed and Cowes remained buzzing all week culminating with a fantastic firework display on Friday night.
Finally all the sailing achievements of the week were celebrated at the Prize Giving on Saturday evening when Bob Cheek and his crew on Buccaneer won our Liz Earle Close Shave Trophy.
If any of you popped into see us at Cowes we’d love to hear from you and find out what you thought about the whole event.
